Nurse practitioners worldwide which have completed university education and landed nursing jobs on Australia are currently facing the risk of deportation. These registered nurses which are coming from India, Thailand, China, and Philippines are expected to enhance English proficiency in order to be saved from deportation and compromising of their nursing jobs.
After spending enormous amount of money from attending university education and community colleges, Indian nursing student Prince Joseph will have to meet Australia’s English proficiency through an eligibility program in order to save his nursing job. Prince Joseph describes it an act of discrimination and an additional burden to pursue another education program set down by the International Language Testing System.
The English proficiency standard has been raised from 6.5 to higher 7 laid down by the Nursing and Midwifery Board. Such policy which has been replicated from UK made registered nurses working in the Australian land very anxious. Some nurse practitioners complained about the rush and most nurse practitioners will not be able to complete an education program regarding English proficiency in just a short span of time considering that mostly of the nursing job visas are going to expire very soon.
Nursing graduates and those who will be graduating are surprised by such nursing career change before it came into effect last July 1. While most nurse practitioners which have gone through paying their nursing education program and continuing education with their salaries and selling their properties in order to land a lucrative job in Australia have labeled such policy change as absolute bureaucratic debacle.
Such dilemma will make nurses worldwide unemployed after deployment which has a double edge effect on the nursing practice industry both domestic and international aspect. Considering that many nurse practitioners from these countries are finding employment abroad despite the need for local and national nurses. And the only solution thing that these troubled nurses is to re-apply for migration, having efficient English language education program in order to pass the new standard of IELTS.
