According to this meta analysis of online education studies that been release by this U.S. Department of Education that those students of online setting or so called hybrid courses are doing better than to learners who have just receive a face to face educational instruction. These results might be contradictory to its common perceptions but it did not surprise to its staff in the UNM’s New Media and even Extended Learning of this Extended University. Based on the research that been published in 1996 to 2008 the analysis had suggested that this advantage about online and hybrid educational courses came from this additional learning time, opportunities for this collaboration, and materials. Debby Knotts who is the NMEL director stated that this online courses provides learners several opportunities for commitment due to the mere fact that they are quite available just around this clock.

The UNM’s first online courses had just appeared just more than this decade ago. Aside of that, UNM also offers some hybrid courses that combines with an online and even classroom educational instruction and web enhance courses for classroom based educational courses that can supplement with this Internet tools. Knotts stated that these online courses can also be considered as an effective recruitment and even retention tool that attracts working and even long distance learners and keep the students those who will be leaving the state before completion of their degrees.
