High Schools College Prep Program must be Strengthened

There are now clamors from parents in the US that the college preparatory programs are not enough – considering that many of the students could not still decide in college what career to choose from that would suit their skills, qualifications and fascinations. In a recent survey conducted by an independent group it showed that the college guidance program and other career orientation activities should be strengthened so that upon graduation from high schools students should be prepared now to advance for college education. Below are some of the observations by said independent body why students could not effectively decide the proper career courses when starting their college education.

1. The lack of more knowledge – This is the main problem of the students in many countries of the world and not only college students in the US and other progressive countries. Students are not ready to choose their careers because they have only little knowledge about a particular course. This means they are not very confident of choosing good career courses. This is also the main reasons why parents urge the government to include in the curriculum a subject which tackles carefully career choices of students. They must have comprehensive and deeply-rooted knowledge about these available courses offered in colleges and universities. Just like the military high schools, students have enough knowledge about military training, education and career choices related to military because they tackle all these in classes. That’s why those who are not ready to pursue military careers would prefer to shift in other courses while those that are ready would continue to enroll in college military academies.

2. No proper developments of their skills – While in high schools students should be taught how to properly handle their skills by way of developing them until they are ready to pursue the same career in college. For example a student with great fascinations in art studies. His special skills in art should he developed while in high schools so that he would have enough knowledge about this matter and already knows what particular courses to take in college related to art education and how he would be able to successfully develop this into a career program to enjoy in life as professional artist.
