European Education Programmes

The European Commission has several funding programmes in the field of education. This programmes support participants financially but also pass them the necessary knowledge to go abroad. There is also a close collaboration between the European Commission and the organisations and institutions that take part in the programme.
Lifelong learning programme
The Lifelong learning programme is the flagship European education funding programme that covers learning opportunities from childhood to old age.
The Lifelong Learning Programme is actually the umbrella programme of four sub-programmes.
- The Comenius programme addresses pupils of pre-schools up to upper secondary education.
- The Erasmus programme addresses students and teachers of higher education. Especially trans-national student placements in companies and institutions and organisations providing or facilitating education and training.
- The Leonardo da Vinci programme addresses students of vocational education and also provides funds for those doing internships.
- The Grundtvig programme is focuses at adult education.
Other programmes
- Erasmus Mundus promotes the European Union as a centre of learning around the world. The programme supports inter-university European Union Masters Courses. It also provides scholarships for non-European students that participate in European postgraduate programmes, as well as scholarships for EU nationals studying outside of Europe.
- EU/USA cooperation is an official agreement that set up a cooperation programme between the European Community and the United States of America in the area of higher education and vocational training.
- EU/Canada cooperation is an official agreement that set up a cooperation programme between the European Community and Canada in the area of higher education and vocational training.
