Catholic University Korea Aims for Internal Globalization

“Decent human beings with a deep respect for human dignity”, the words of Fr. Johan Pahk –university president of the Catholic University of Korea as the school envision to instill their students with social values. This year, the school strives for competence and bringing their school to the top list of globalized schools nationwide.

But contradictory to the basic means, the university endeavors to procreate and incept developments internally. The university gears for improvement without exporting their students to reputable schools worldwide.

The initiative gave birth to the Global English Outreach program which primarily stresses English proficiency inside a dormitory. The students and professors are required to be sheltered under and English dormitory. Such dormitory will provide home learning to 1,200 students and professors.

Freshmen students and professors will then be intensely immersed to heavy English for about a month in all aspect of activities inside the shelter. Students will be classified and grouped into their own proficiency levels.

Another branch of development which will be focused by the catholic university is in developing warmhearted leaders of the nation. To start the project, the school point’s heavy emphasis on education programs integrated with catholic values.

The university will incorporate Ethical Leaders Rearing Program (ELP) which is a special humanities course consists of problem solving and improvement of humanity. Creativity, Analytical and Problem-solving Competence (CAP) is also an education program component that sharpens student critical thinking abilities.

Catholic University of Korea will focus on Humanities but will not set aside competence and technical skills in their globalization scheme. The university said to penetrate on competence other schools do not posses. This is coordinated with its goal being top among all schools and universities of Korea.

Recently, the university has eight hospitals which give them an unfair advantage over other schools, several campuses in Seoul, Hyehwa-dong and Banpo-dong.
