The food- and cooking industry has a wide variety of careers. These can be offered in places like restaurants, cafeterias, hotels, bakeries, resorts, etc. There is a large number of careers in the food- and cooking industry. We will give you some career examples in this part.

Chef: this occupation is mostly associated with culinary schools. A student who wants to become a chef will be prepared to manage a kitchen, conduct its business, and keep the business running profitably and smoothly.

Nutrition / Dietetics: they often are a part of the staff in health- and educational institutions. Their task is to plan meals for the patients or students that are nutritious to meet any specific dietary needs. Nutrition / dietetics can also work in sport teams, pharmaceutical companies, wellness centers and numerous of other business where they have to meet the dietary needs.

Cook: a cook is prepares food. They work in various different businesses in the food-services industry. It can vary from restaurants, hospitals, hotels, schools, etc.

Food chemists: they develop new ingredients and new processes. They are also known as food researchers, because they research the tastes of food, the content, if the food contains too much fat, sugar, or any other ingredient.

Restaurant (hospitality) manager: he or she doesn’t necessary has to run the whole restaurant, but usually they are hired as a food- and beverage manager.

Food teacher / trainer: if you know a lot about the food industry and you have finished a culinary school, it is possible that you will be employed as a food teacher or food trainer at a cooking school. Food instructors are also often hired to demonstrate new culinary equipment.
